Schedule

We do not have access to each student’s school timetable, so we are unable to guarantee specific lesson times. However, if there is a particular day you would prefer to avoid, please let us know so we can allocate the most suitable teacher. MSPS does provide us with their specialist calendar and so we book around these classes.

Instrumental lessons begin at 9:50am each morning to allow students time to settle into the school day.

Parents will receive a copy of the lesson schedule so students can remember when their lesson is. BFSM teachers may contact the classroom if a student has not arrived for their lesson. Please note that missed lesson minutes due to late arrival are not the responsibility of BFSM.

Absences

BFSM operates with a 24-hour cancellation policy. If a lesson is cancelled with at least 24 hours notice, it can be rescheduled or credited.

If a lesson is missed without sufficient notice, the lesson cannot be rescheduled or credited.

Rescheduled lessons may take place at MSPS or at our BFSM studio located at Sherbourne Primary School. If a suitable time cannot be arranged, the lesson will be credited to the following term’s invoice.

If MSPS schedules an event that clashes with a lesson, the lesson will not be taught or charged. If you would like to organise a make-up lesson for these missed days, please contact Bianca. If a time is available, the lesson can be delivered at MSPS or BFSM and a separate invoice will be issued by your teacher.

Goal Setting

Lessons are tailored to each student’s individual goals and interests.

Students join music lessons for many different reasons, and we support them whether they wish to:

  • build confidence

  • prepare for AMEB exams

  • perform (BFSM host concerts at the end of every term)

  • record music

  • learn songwriting

  • or simply enjoy making music

In shared lessons, goals may be set for the group, while still supporting individual learning preferences.

Our Team

All BFSM teachers are tertiary qualified, experienced musicians and educators, and hold a Working With Children Check (WWCC) which can be viewed upon request.

THE SINGING CLUB!

Every Friday at lunchtime, the MSPS Choir meets to sing together as a group and work towards exciting performance opportunities.

Through these activities, students develop confidence, teamwork, stage presence, and vocal skills, while building friendships with other students who share a love of singing.

It’s a relaxed, welcoming space where students can build confidence, express themselves, and experience the joy of singing as part of a community. 🎶

Lesson Length & Cost

Students may enrol in:

Shared Lessons
30 minute lesson
$25 per student
Usually taught in pairs

Individual Lessons
20 minute private lesson
$27 per student

Singing lessons may be taught in small groups of 2–4 students.

In special cases, students may be offered the opportunity to extend their individual lessons to 30min. BFSM teachers will reach out to you if this is recommended.

Students will be grouped based on experience, confidence, and compatibility.
There are limited individual lesson spaces, which will be allocated in order of enrolment.

Lesson Location

Lessons are held in the Old French Room at MSPS.

All teaching rooms have windows, and BFSM follows Child Safe recommendations, ensuring that a teacher and student are not alone in the portable space.

Equipment

BFSM provides all necessary equipment for lessons.

Students are welcome to bring their own instrument if they wish, but it is not required to begin lessons.

We recommend waiting to purchase an instrument until your child is sure they enjoy learning. Many families choose to hire instruments first. We recommend:
